Segment Engineer II

Job Summary:

The primary responsibilities of this function are: to research, plan and prepare designs of rupture discs, explosion vents, related assemblies, and required tooling as per customer requests & applicable Codes & Standards for the review by an Eng. III or Sr. Engineer. This includes holders, soldered and welded assemblies, and other special systems.  Preparation CAD drawings and models, including manufacturing information utilizing software provided and establishing pertinent part set up data in Epicor in accordance with established procedures & data specifications & standards as well as maintaining & up-dating existing product data in Epicor in accordance with the same specifications. This position must obtain check & approval from Engineer II / III or Sr. Engineer for any product or tooling drawing created. Actively participates with client, customer or official contacts and communication pertaining to specific design / application clarifications, assignments or customer meetings.

Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform tasks and starts to develop and in-depth understand of applicable Codes & Standards.

Assist other Engineers and Craftsman in trouble shooting of design and or manufacturing methods and revise associated documentation as needed.

Evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria to perform tasks.

Processes & completes RMA’s and associated Lab reports and seeks Eng. III or Sr. Engineer feedback.

Supports Engineer III / Sr. Engineers in the preparation and participates in the execution of Engineering Seminars & Factory Schools for Rep. Agencies and Customers.

Supports other Segment Engineers during high capacity needs and absences, can be permanently assigned to a specific Segment or operating as floating Engineer across all Segments.

Supports Engineers III & Sr. Engineers on project tasks as & when required with tasks within this Job Description.

Participation or facilitation (after completing required training) in Oseco productivity & quality improvement events (Kaizen, 5S events) on an as required basis.

Obtains Project Mgmt. training (min. all available classes) and participates as Team member as well as progresses towards Project Manager role for CP2, CP3 & CapEx projects.

Flow Lab: Obtains training and builds experience as Authorized Observer for the flow lab (voluntary additional task for Eng. II). Supports product flow testing and product certification testing witnessed by outside independent verification organization. 

Has Subject Matter Expert (SME) topic assigned in Objectives and is pro-actively starting to develop SME knowledge thru in-house as well as external training, literature, associations and other knowledge sharing means. Working towards becoming the primary go-to person for any questions or support needs for the SME topic in the Organization.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering & 3 - 7 years’ experience in an Engineering & Mfg. environment.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Ability to research and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Designs products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems.
  • Ability to prepare product designs for Eng. III / Sr. Eng. approval for product and assemblies to interface with customer vessels, machines, hardware and software.
  • May be involved in fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Participates or creates (voluntary task assignment) in utilization of product application simulations (SolidWorks Simulation) to rapidly verify critical design parameters.
  • Ability to identify critical product features & dimensions and to reduce product development cycle time by identifying & eliminating design risk areas.
  • Support Oseco defined Kaizen & 5S events aimed at driving operational excellence.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, customer drawings or sketches, data sheets, national codes (ASME, API, Government, etc.) and various other national regulations.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
  • Ability to write articles for distribution to various in-house control documents (PS, ES, PCS, etc.) that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to Mid management, customer groups and participate in top level mgmt. discussions.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
  • Develop and maintain a full understanding of the Company's Quality policy as it relates to meeting customer needs, expectations and certification / standards.
  • Ability to plan daily – weekly – monthly workload and apply priorities driven by Objectives.
